上季投出大都會隊史上第一場無安打比賽的Johan Santana，在R.A. Dickey被交易到藍鳥後，新球季大都會自然希望Santana能扛起1號先發，總教練Terry Collins甚至希望他能投開幕戰。
大都會新球季第1場比賽，將在美國時間4月1號主場對上教士隊。
上季Santana投出無安打比賽後，接下來10次先發，他的防禦率高達8.27，並在最後5次先發裡，每場都至少掉6分以上，差一場就追上1999年老虎Willie Blair連續場次掉6分以上的紀錄。
到了8月，Santana因為背傷關係進入傷兵名單，雖然之後他康復，可以回到場上投球，但大都會基於保護他的立場，沒有再讓他先發。
總教練Collins相信Santana上季的受傷，與疲勞有一定的關係，這個冬天Santana動了手術後，努力在復健，成效也相當不錯。
新球季Santana能不能健康投球，Collins相當有信心的表示：「沒問題，他說他感覺很好。」
大都會交易掉Dickey後，本季輪值預定由Santana、Shaun Marcum、Jon Niese、Dillon Gee和Matt Harvey擔任，Santana到底能不能重現神之左手光輝，將是球迷最關心的事。
