經過多時談判，「國王」賀南德茲(Felix Hernandez)與水手隊的延長合約終塵埃落定，雙方以7年高達1.75億美元(約新台幣52億)達成協議，超越洋基隊左投沙巴西亞(CC Sabathia)，成為現役合約總值最高的投手。而雙方目前尚未對此事有所回應。
今年才要滿27歲的賀南德茲，是大聯盟現今最穩定的投手之一，他曾在2010年簽下一紙5年7800萬美元的延長合約，簽完便在該季獲得美聯賽揚獎肯定，接下來兩個球季他仍是水手最可靠的球員，故球團願意與他再談延長合約。達成協議後，他平均年薪將可來到2500萬美元(約7.4億新台幣)。
在賀南德茲尚未簽約前，沙胖是現役合約總值最高的投手，擁有7年1.61億美元(約47.7億新台幣)，接下來便是去年底與道奇隊簽定6年1.47億美元(約43.6億新台幣)的右投葛蘭基(Zack Greinke)。
賀南德茲19歲就登上大聯盟，第二年成水手隊固定輪值一員，2009年他有19勝5敗，防禦率2.49，10年雖然僅13勝12敗，但防禦率2.27與232次三振皆屬頂尖，被打擊率更只有2成12，在該年獲得美聯賽揚獎肯定。
這位3度入選明星賽的好手續航力超強，已經連續5年單季至少貢獻200局，而且自2009年起，投球局數皆破230。僅8年生涯，他已有98勝76敗，防禦率3.22的佳績，並且連續4年三振數破200，至今已累積1487K；若能維持下去，有機會在35歲前達成200勝、3000K的水準。
